More safety in sterilization - Since many products from the food/beverages and pharmaceutical sectors have to be treated under aseptic conditions, potential weaknesses and possibilities for sterilization can be demonstrated by biological indicators (BI). Bacterial spores of Bacillus atrophaeus and Geobacillus stearothermophilus are often used as BI to monitor decontamination processes with hydrogen peroxide. Results in practical inactivation tests, however, vary considerably.
Standardization of BI for hydrogen peroxide decontamination - It is well known that growing conditions of bacterial spore formers can have influence on their spore resistance. This project will generate fundamental knowledge for the standardized production and application of BI.
